LISTINGJason Isbell And The 400 Unit
Weathervanes [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Natural LP]
Vinyl: $29.98 PREORDER
A Jason Isbell record always lands like a decoder ring in the ears and hearts of his audience, a soundtrack to his world and magically to theirs, too. Weathervanes carries the same revelatory power. This is a storyteller at the peak of his craft, observing his fellow wanderers, looking inside and trying to understand, reducing a universe to four minutes. He shrinks life small enough to name the fear and then strip it away, helping his listeners make sense of how two plus two stops equaling four once you reach a certain age -- and carry a certain amount of scars.
There is something about boundaries on this record, Isbell says. As you mature, you still attempt to keep the ability to love somebody fully and completely while youre growing into an adult and learning how to love yourself.
Weathervanes is a collection of grown-up songs: Songs about adult love, about change, about the danger of nostalgia and the interrogation of myths, about cruelty and regret and redemption. Life and death songs played for and by grown ass people. Some will make you cry alone in your car and others will make you sing along with thousands of strangers in a big summer pavilion, united in the great miracle of being alive. The record features the rolling thunder of Isbells fearsome 400 Unit, whove earned a place in the rock n roll cosmos alongside the greatest backing ensembles, as powerful and essential to the storytelling as The E Street Band or the Wailers.
They make a big noise, as Isbell puts it, and he feels so comfortable letting them be a main prism through which much of the world hears his art. He can be private but with them behind him he transforms, and there is a version of himself that can only exist in their presence. When he plays a solo show, he is in charge of the entire complicated juggle. On stage with the 400 Unit, he can be a guitar hero when he wants, and a conductor when he wants, and a smiling fan of the majesty of his bandmates when he wants to hang back and listen to the sound.
Fruit Bats
A River Running To Your Heart [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Opaque Blue & Bone LP]
Vinyl: $22.98 PREORDER
A River Running to Your Heart represents the fullest realization of Johnson's creative vision to date. It's a sonically diverse effort that largely explores the importance of what it means to be home, both physically and spiritually. Self-produced by Johnson-a first for Fruit Bats-with Jeremy Harris at Panoramic House just north of San Francisco, A River Running to Your Heart is Fruit Bats' tenth full-length release. The album finds the project in the middle of a people-powered climb leading to the biggest shows, loudest accolades, and most enthusiastic new fans in Fruit Bats history! It's hard to pinpoint a single reason for this mid-career resurgence. But after two decades of making music, hard-earned emotional maturity has clearly seeped into Johnson's already inviting songs, resulting in a sound that's connected with audiences like no other previous version of the band.
The National
First Two Pages of Frankenstein [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Red LP]
Vinyl: $25.98 PREORDER
First Two Pages of Frankenstein is The Nationals ninth studio album. This 11-song collection signals a new chapter in the bands discography. Anchored by evocative melodies and an enthralling lyrical narrative, First Two Pages of Frankenstein finds The National sounding more creatively energized than ever and poised to earn them even more fans. The album was produced by the band at Long Pond Studios in upstate New York and features guest appearances by Taylor Swift (The Alcott), Phoebe Bridgers (This Isnt Helping and Your Mind Is Not Your Friend) and Sufjan Stevens (Once Upon a Poolside).
A Wednesday song is a quilt. A short story collection, a half-memory,a patchwork of portraits of the American south, disparate momentsthat somehow make sense as a whole. Karly Hartzman, the songwriter/vocalist/guitarist at the helm of the project, is a story collector asmuch as she is a storyteller: a scholar of people and one-liners. RatSaw God, the Asheville quintets new and best record, is ekphrastic butautobiographical and above all, deeply empathetic. Across the albums tentracks Hartzman, guitarist MJ Lenderman, bassist Margo Shultz, drummerAlan Miller, and lap/pedal steel player Xandy Chelmis build a shrine tominutiae. Half-funny, half-tragic dispatches from North Carolina unfurlingsomewhere between the wailing skuzz of Nineties shoegaze and classiccountry twang, that distorted lap steel and Hartzmans voice slicingthrough the din.
Rat Saw God is an album about riding a bike down a suburban stretchin Greensboro while listening to My Bloody Valentine for the first time onan iPod Nano, past a creek that runs through the neighborhood riddledwith broken glass bottles and condoms, a front yard filled with brokenand rusted car parts, a lonely and dilapidated house reclaimed by kudzu.Four Lokos and rodeo clowns and a kid who burns down a corn field.Roadside monuments, church marquees, poppers and vodka in a plasticwater bottle, the shit you get away with at Jewish summer camp, strangesentimental family heirlooms at the thrift stores. The way the South humsalive all night in the summers and into fall, the sound of high schoolfootball games, the halo effect from the lights polluting the darkness. Itsnot really bright enough to see in front of you, but in that stretch of inkyvoid somehow you see everything.
The songs on Rat Saw God dont recount epics, just the everyday.Theyre true, theyre real life, blurry and chaotic and strange which isin-line with Hartzmans own ethos: Everyones story is worthy, she says, plainly. Literally every life story is worth writing down, because peopleare so fascinating.

Continue As A Guest [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Opaque Green/Translucent Blue LP]
Vinyl: $22.98 PREORDER
Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd is the ninth studio album from acclaimed singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, comprising 16 tracks and interludes with features including Father John Misty, Tommy Genesis, Jon Batiste, Bleachers and more. It follows the prolific artist's 2021 albums Chemtrails Over The Country Club and Blue Banisters.
72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told who we are by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.
-James Hetfield

Nickel Creek
Celebrants [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Confetti Yellow 2LP]
Vinyl: $31.98 PREORDER
Their fifth studio album, Celebrants marks a highly anticipated return for the beloved trio and explores the inherent dynamics of human connection. Across the 18 tracks, the trio addresses love, friendship and time with lyrics both poetic and plain-spoken, as they see bridges built, crossed, burned and rebuilt. Recorded at Nashvilles RCA Studio A, the album was produced by longtime collaborator Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Grace Potter, Weezer) and features Mike Elizondo on bass.
In celebration of the release, the band will perform three very special sold-out shows at Nashvilles historic Ryman Auditorium this spring on April 27, 28 and 29.
Together a sum of more than their staggering parts, Nickel Creek revolutionized bluegrass and folk in the early 2000s and ushered in a new era of what we now recognize as Americana music. In a 2020 retrospective entitled, The Year Folk Broke: How Nickel Creek Made Americana The New Indie Rock, NPR Music praised, 20 years ago this month, an album arrived that seemed to speak all these languages at once: unafraid to push the boundaries of its primary genre, and packing the musical chops to bring such an eclectic vision to life. Behind it were three musicians just barely old enough to vote and continued, That makes Nickel Creek and its unofficial debut a critical point along a storied timeline, one whose innovations offer countless connections between the genres origins and its future. Once dubbed progressive newgrassers, the three musicians now fit firmly within the ranks of Americana musichowever nebulous, layered and diverse that realm may be. They have only themselves to thank.
After meeting as young children and subsequently earning the respect of the bluegrass circuit for a decade, the trio signed with venerable label, Sugar Hill Records, in 2000 and quickly broke through with their Grammy-nominated, Alison Krauss-produced self-titled LP. Since that effort, the trio has released three more studio albums to date: 2002s This Side, which won Best Contemporary Folk Album at the 45th Grammy Awards, 2005s Why Should the Fire Die? and 2014s A Dotted Line.
Elton John
Honky Chateau: 50th Anniversary [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Gold LP]
Vinyl: $31.98 PREORDER
Named after the residential studios outside Paris where the album was recorded, Honky Chteau bought a new level of simplicity and directness to Eltons music that had previously only been seen in glimpses. Shorn of the complexities and ornate orchestrations of his recent work, Honky Chateau seemed freewheeling and intimate. It was helped by Rocket Man, the record which became another of Eltons signature songs.
These special editions contain the original album, and on both vinyl and CD editions a newly created selection of outtakes from the sessions, produced from the original tapes by Matt Still, which highlight the warmth and humor of the sessions.
On CD only there are eight tracks from the album that were recorded at the Royal Festival Hall in 1972, all receiving their live debut, just a few days back in the UK after recording. Assembled with the customary care by Eltons catalog team, the album comes as a gatefold with an eight-page booklet with rare photos, memorabilia and an essay by co-curator and music writer Daryl Easlea, featuring interviews from those who were there.
Honky Chteau has been mastered at Lurssen in California, and the vinyl cut at Abbey Road.
If credibility were currency, FAKE NAMES wealth would be off thecharts. Composed of Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Dag Nasty), Michael Hampton (S.O.A., Embrace), Dennis Lyxzn (Refused, INVSN,The [International] Noise Conspiracy), Johnny Temple (Girls AgainstBoys, Soulside) and the newest member Brendan Canty (Fugazi, Rites ofSpring), the band is a veritable post-hardcore dream team.
However instead of rehashing the past, Expendables is a reinventionthat sees the band dialing back the distortion and leaning into themelodies. The result pairs their unparalleled pedigree with a popsensibility thats slightly unexpected and wholly satisfying. For our
last record [2019s FAKE NAMES]the general influences were 70s U.K.punk and power-pop; but it wound up with a little classic rock vibe aswell, like the Vibrators meets Aerosmith. We never saw that coming! ,Baker explains.
For Expendables the band enlisted producer Adam Atom Greenspan (IDLES, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Baker explains, The pop influences are alittle more out front on this one and the production really helps it shine. It sounds more direct, more urgent.Expendables is the latest exchange in a musical conversation that spans four decades. Baker aptly refers to the lineup of FAKE NAMESas a mutual admiration society and says that once the five members got in the same room together, it felt as if they had already been inthe band together for years.

Durand Joness Wait Til I Get Over is a memoir and a love letter. It is the story of Joness life, his growth and revelations, thewisdom of his hometown and the wisdom he could only gainonce he left. In it, he writes through Hillaryvilles contradictions:the pristine beauty and the ragged roads; his teenage desireto leave and his adult desire to honor his tangled roots; theplantation history and the ups and downs of the Black communitythat made homes of this reparation town. Hometowns have away of keeping a part of you, says Jones, and if Im makingsomething young-me would be proud of, Hillaryville is a big partof that. Jones finds something transformative in his memoriesthere and the life he has led since, ultimately claiming andembracing his whole self.
The result is vulnerable, personal, touching on Jonessrelationship to church life, to his mother, to his queerness, tohis worth. I wish I could tell my younger self you dont have tostick to the dreams people have for you, says Jones, you candream bigger. You are more than capable, you are more thanable. I think about some nerdy punk kid in the rural south whoneeds to hear that now. Wait Til I Get Over does exactly that.
