In early 1973 Gram Parsons embarked on a tour to promote his recently released first solo album, GP. Gram put together a pretty great band, including the then-unknown Emmylou Harris as his singing partner. The shows were somewhat uneven at first, but by midtour the band started to find its groove.

One show stood out to pedal steel player Neil Flanz: the third night at the Bijou Cafe in Philadelphia. Neil felt that this was the best show of the tour and requested a copy of the soundboard recording. He saved it for almost forty years, and then it was acquired by Amoeba Music for a future Gram release. It then disappeared in the Amoeba vault for another ten years before it was rediscovered when Amoeba moved to a new location in LA.

It turns out Neil was right. This is Gram and Emmylou at their finest. And it’s the next to last club date ever for Gram and the Fallen Angels. A 50-year-old soundboard cassette offers some unique challenges, but thanks to the efforts of some of the world’s best archival sound restoration engineers, the beauty and energy of Gram, Emmy and the band shine through.
For all of those who never got to experience Gram live, this is the closest we’ll ever get to being there.

Oscar Peterson’s trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen is widely regarded as Peterson’s “classic trio,” considered by fans the most popular and in-demand of his long, storied career and featured on releases such as 1963’s Night Train and 1964’s We Get Requests.

Recorded during their creative peak in 1964 (five years into their collaboration), this previously unheard and unreleased live performance is destined to become a fan favorite from the Oscar Peterson vaults. In his memoir Peterson reflects on the dedication that Ray and Ed brought to the group: "In addition to our trio rehearsals, therefore, Ray would call his own rehearsals in his or Ed’s room and they would simply practice ‘time.’ They created a flexible and multi-faceted rhythmical language that they could apply to any musical statement I might make and enhance any direction I might choose. In short, they practiced ‘all the possibles.’”

Having left the Fun Boy Three at the end of their 1983 US tour, Terry Hall went straight into forming his next group, The Colourfield. Teaming up with former 2Tone labelmates Toby Lyons and Karl Shale (The Swinging Cats) for the band, The Colourfield launched on legendary UK TV music show The Tube, with their debut single “The Colourfield” in January 1984 and followed up later with their second single “Take”. Their debut album followed in early 1985, which contained the hit single “Thinking of You”, as well as subsequent single “Castles In The Air”. Later in the year they released a couple of non-album singles, “I Can’t Get Enough of You Baby” and “Things Could Be Beautiful” (produced by longtime friend, musician/producer Ian Broudie).

By the time of their follow-up album, 1987’s Deception, they had dropped to a duo. Launched with a cover of the Sly & The Stone classic “Running Away” and produced by Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go Go’s, Scritti Politti), the album fared less well and its final single was a cover of the Bobby Hart/Tommy Boyce track “She”, made famous by the Monkees.

This RSD Black Friday release collects those singles and others, on 140g Trans Blue vinyl.

DEATH, the heavy metal institution founded, realized, and helmed by legendary guitarist Chuck Schuldiner, released the Individual Thought Patterns album (the follow-up to their watershed Human release) in 1993. The Body-Hat Syndrome is the third album from the rap group Digital Underground.  The album's second single, an anti-racism cultural awareness politico called "Wussup Wit the Luv," features a solo from the Funkadelic guitarist Michael Hampton, as well as a verse and video appearance by Tupac Shakur. This was the last time Shakur appeared on any Digital Underground release.  The album also contains "The Humpty Dance Awards," the group's humorous shout-out to the many artists who sampled "The Humpty Dance" before 1993 (since then the list has grown to more than 50 artists).  The Body-Hat Syndrome, originally released on October 5, 1993, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It has only been released as a special Italian vinyl version making this RSD Black Friday the first time it will be released on vinyl globally.

The Doors Live in Bakersfield is one of the more unique shows from The Doors during a tumultuous 1970 when Jim Morrison was on trial on trumped-up charges in Miami. The band had been playing together live for five years, and were tight enough to be able to veer into the unknown. That’s what they opted for in this California agriculture town on a hot summer night. Featuring improvisations and medleys of The Doors many beloved hits from across their albums, Live in Bakersfield is a shamanic adventure for all who listen. Recorded August 21, 1970.

This reissue of Justin Townes Earle's debut EP, originally banged out over a weekend to sell on tour, has been remastered from the original, high-resolution sources by 5-time Grammy-winning producer/engineer/artist Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Waylon Jennings), cut at 45 RPM by Jeff Powell, and pressed on 180g gold vinyl. This new package features liner notes by JTE's friend, collaborator, and art director Joshua Black Wilkins, plus full lyrics and a print of a previously unpublished photo of Justin from the EP's cover shoot.

One of Meryl Streep’s first attempts at lighter fare was the fan-favorite 1992 dark comedy Death Becomes Her, which included one of her earlier vocal performances on film. Her original song “Me” is one of the expanded tracks on the LP (going from 2:18 to 3:28). In total, there are 12 minutes of unreleased music – mostly from super composer Alan Silvestri (The Avengers, Forrest Gump, Back to the Future) – though none of the content has been released on vinyl until now. This LP is pressed on grape vinyl with new artwork in a gatefold jacket and available in a limited edition for RSD Black Friday 2023.

In 2000, Enon was all Brooklyn style, comprised of John Schmersal of Brainiac and Rick Lee and Steve Calhoon of Skeleton Key. John and Rick bonded over a penchant for suitcases full of electronics and battery powered trickery – portable musical distractions capable of making tracks on the fly. That’s what this era was all about for Enon – the suitcases and being in the moment wherever they were. Though the band would later evolve to 2007’s lineup of Schmersal, Toko Yasuda and Matt Schulz, you’ve got to know where you’re coming from to see how you got to where you are today. Level Headed was without doubt the most distinctive album Sweet ever produced. It is both varied in itself and very different from almost anything that they had released before. In a lot of ways, it was Sweet taking a risk. It shows many aspects of the band that are easily overlooked on previous albums and unseen aspects for the first time. The album gave them their final Top Ten hit with the dreamy "Love Is Like Oxygen," a single that has become a staple for the band. Released here on vinyl for the first time ever, this collection of rare recordings by Australian rock legends Fraternity was unearthed from the archives of original band manager Hamish Henry and curated by author and co-manager Victor Marshall whilst performing research for his book on the band, Fraternity: Pub Rock Pioneers’ (Brolga Publishing 2021).

Original cover artwork by renown Australian artist Vytas Serelis who also designed the cover artwork for Flaming Galah. The deluxe package includes a gatefold jacket packed with original press clippings and previously unpublished period band photos plus extensive liner notes by Victor Marshall.

The album features legendary AC/DC front man Bon Scott on lead vocals. His work with Fraternity put Scott on the radar of George Young, AC/DC coproducer and older brother of Angus and Malcolm, eventually leading to Scott replacing then-frontman Dave Evans in 1974.

Featuring three co-writes by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and guitar guests like Stephen Carpenter of the Deftones and Jonah Matranga of Far and Onelinedrawing, Taproot's Blue-Sky Research tapped a more melodic vein than its predecessors and sold well in 2005 on the strength of such singles as "Calling" and "Birthday." It proved to be their last album for Atlantic, though, which probably explains why it has never seen a vinyl release. Our reissue comes with an inner sleeve housing a (natch) "blue sky" vinyl pressing limited to 1500 copies worldwide.
